join RIPE FRUIT School of Creative Writing for an unforgettable week-end
of autumnal writing in the wine country.

OPENING
THE FIELD
Friday: Together our pens plow the earth
that feeds us, exposing our rich loam to the air - until we can
see the furrows spread across the land, our supple seedbeds.

SOWING
SEEDS
Saturday: We plant ourselves sturdily on vast green lawns and
carve our bodies quietly into the furrows of early morning sunlight
under the guidance of an experienced yoga teacher. Then, in the
shadows of a grand old tree whose seed was sown in the first half
of this millennium, we write directly from the source.

TENDING
OUR PLOTS
At midday, October country bleeds its autumn colors into the
air. We sit in the vineyards, where grapes have burgeoned in endless
clusters on their dark stalks, our restless words our only labor.

HARVEST
In the melancholy twilight of autumn, we reap what we have sown
- our words sharpened like scythes from searching and flaunting
and careful tending.

THE
FEAST
Saturday night: we empty ourselves of inhibitions through improvisationand
offer our words, libations and wine, at a full moon performance
/ reading in the theater.

DARK
FLUTES OF MOURNING
Sunday: After a country walk in the early glowing where old
stones rest softened by fallen oak leaves, we gather in a cathedral
adorned with sheaves of wheat and pomegranates. Here, the veil is
thin that divides the worlds. We let the sacredness of our words
carry us over.

thought I would have no time for frivolity - yet I came early and
left late. I thought all the reading wasn't writing, but it became
the ink in my pen. I thought we should be locked in a library for
two days to really make it a workshop, but my best work was born out
of play. I thought that sitting in vineyards and cemeteries was so
Hollywood, and would never lead to anything but trite cliches, but
something magic happened instead. Thank you for the blood transfusion..."
